Today we handed in project #2. Also we read "We ate the children last" and watched the video: There is also another video HERE Today we learned about sentence structure and watched a TED talk about comma use. We had time to work on project #2 DUE TOMORROW! Today was a work day. Reminder that PROJECT 2 is due FRIDAY!
Today we went over essay format and transitions in writing. We also watched a Simpsons episode titled "2 cars in every garage and 3 eyed fish on every plate". We started work on our satire posters.
Today we went over dialogue notes and projects were returned. We furthered our study of satire by watching Affluenza and reading the article published by The Onion. We went over "A Modest Proposal" and identified elements of satire and parody.
-Irony:Verbal, situational, dramatic -Exaggeration and hyperbole -Sarcasm -Juxtaposition -AntiClimax We watched Rick Mercer Rants as another example of satire. Today we learned about satire and saw a few examples(below). We read "A Modest Proposal" found on the readings page. Today we learned about IN TEXT CITATIONS and how to format them in our writing. We also read "The Rum Shop" and identified examples of sense imagery within the poem: sight, smell, touch, taste and sound.
Today we went over Hairball and worked on identifying conflict within the story. See the worksheet in the ASSIGNMENTS page.
